Origins and Nutritional Value of Whole Wheat Honey Chocolate Cookies

This recipe celebrates the nutritional benefits of its ingredients. Whole wheat flour, a cornerstone here, infuses these cookies with fiber, aiding digestion and promoting a longer feeling of fullness. Honey, a natural sweetener, not only adds sweetness but also brings antioxidants and antibacterial properties to the mix. The inclusion of ground flaxseed and chia seeds boosts omega-3 fatty acids and contributes to heart health. Moreover, the use of sunflower oil in place of butter offers a healthier fat profile, making these cookies a delightful, guilt-free indulgence.

Cooking Up Whole Wheat Honey Chocolate Cookies

Begin by whisking together the egg, brown sugar, honey, and sunflower oil until you achieve a smooth blend. Then, in a separate bowl, combine the 200g of whole wheat flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, a pinch of salt, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 tablespoon each of ground flaxseed and chia seeds, and 100g of chocolate chips. Mix and knead the dough until well combined. Remember, the dough will be sticky, but that’s just fine – avoid adding extra flour.

Serving Suggestions

Once the dough has chilled, preheat the oven to 180℃ (350℉). Grease a baking sheet lightly and shape the dough into small balls, placing them on the sheet, ensuring they’re adequately spaced apart. Bake for 15 minutes until they’re perfectly golden. Initially soft, these cookies will firm up deliciously as they cool.

A Delectable Experience

  • 200 grams wholemeal flour
  • 80 ml sunflower oil
  • 80 ml honey

  • 1 piece egg
  • 100 grams chocolate drops
  • 1 soup spoon broken flaxseed
  • 1 soup spoon chia seeds
  • 1 piece vanillin
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions

  • In the mixer bowl, whisk together the egg, brown sugar, honey, and sunflower oil with a wire whisk until the ingredients are well combined, and the sugar has dissolved.
  • Remove the bowl from the mixer and add the whole wheat flour, baking powder, salt, vanilla extract, ground flaxseed, chia seeds, and chocolate chips. Mix and knead the dough with your hands.
  • The dough will be sticky, but don't worry about it; avoid adding more flour.
  • Cover the dough with transparent wrap and refrigerate for an hour to firm up.

  • Grease a baking sheet with oil. Take the dough out of the fridge and, using a spoon, take a small amount of dough and shape it into a ball.

  • Bake for only 15 minutes on the upper and lower heating elements of the oven.
  • Initially, the cookies will be soft, but they will harden as time passes.

Notes

Note: Be careful not to let the cookies touch each other on the baking sheet as they spread while baking.
